A kind of alchemy: movement becomes electricity becomes light becomes sound.

Or an invitation: to go slow, to listen, to sit, to vibrate.

Thrum was Mugumpin's first Occurrence of 2011. It was conceived by Anne Allison and Christopher W. White. Occurrences are Mugwumpin's series of performances for non-theatrical spaces, all organized around the year's theme; 2011 is the Year of Science and Magic. The Thrum Occurrence was an immersive sound installation that was at once meditative and thunderous.  Performers in one space repeated deceptively simple patterns with handheld lights while in another space, familiar technologies translated the performers' patterns into a swirling, consuming cavern of shifting lights and sound.  Audiences physically felt vibrations as much as they could see or hear them.

Thrum was originally performed at the Envision Academy and reprised at The Jewish Theater for the Fury Factory Festival.  Performers: Anne Allison, Rob Dario, Sarah Elovich, Joseph Estlack, Maryam Rostami, Anna Shneiderman, Michelle Talgarow, Christopher W. White.
